Like multiple layers of tapestry, my personality has been to provide something handmade, womanly, and thoughtfully constructed. Architecture, design, and textures are my unwavering inspirations. Conceptually, each bag integrates clean form and structure.

Creating has been both a personal outlet and comfortable way for me to re-connect with others. The female process of making a container: folding, shaping and sewing has brought me a glimpse beyond recovery. For beating cancer has given me both a strength and sense of triumph that I want to share; an aesthetic language, more practical than fairytales and happy endings.

I have always loved the possibilities of creation that fiber presents. My eye sees that a textile's color and texture are woven into their own art form, that I then fashion into a new art form with my own designs.

  • I roll the fabric out on a table under natural light so that I can find the most colorful and dynamic presentation for each design.
  • Each bag is hand cut for precision.
  • The rough edges are cleanly finished.
  • Short stitch lengths are used for durability and their appearance.
  • All stress points are reinforced.
  • Various finishing techniques are used to give each bag their own character.
  • I do not use linings because they add weight, bulk, and distort the shapes. I prefer to show the underside of the fabrics. It is interesting to see how individual thread colors (often unseen on the surface) are used to create texture, depth, and patterns.
  • I pare everything down to what actually contributes to the design integrity and function.

Bags are highly personal due to individual taste, and their physical proximity to those who carry them. I create these bags to be splendid companions. Comfort and visual pleasure rule!
